Be Intentional

It is so easy- too easy, to slip into our habitual life and drive out our obedience. The demands of life day by day conspire to detract us from those things that should be part of our life of devotion to the things of the spirit. It is important that we keep our spiritual thoughts and pursuits foremost as part of our everyday lives.

I have learned that unless I work at keeping the spiritual part of my life focused, the other demands of life crowd them out. The devil sees to it that the daily concerns of my life take precedence over what I know to be that which delights my Lord.

So, what’s the answer? I have found that unless I program into my life that which delights the Spirit, it will not happen. How do I do that?

I have found that when I’m true to my daily devotion (quiet time), I can seek that I will be mindful of the part of my life that must be operational if I am to be the serious disciple I wish to be. When I commit that to myself, the Holy Spirit rides “shotgun” and helps make it happen. After all, He has that responsibility.

Then, whenever a situation arises that demands a spiritual response, (a reaction, or a point of witness), He reminds me that now is the time for your “Christian” self  to respond appropriately. It may not be the natural (human) response and that’s the point. We are at that moment rising above that natural response and reacting out of the “godly” response that we desire and is pleasing to the Holy Spirit.

That kind of response comes as we are being intentional about our spiritual commitment. It’s not the natural thing but then, we are reacting out of the working of the Holy Spirit.

When we continue to act or react out of our natural human self is when we are resisting the working of the Holy Spirit in our life.  That brings grief to the Spirit.  That is when we are disobedient to our Holy calling. Ephesians 4:30 (NIV) 30  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

You can skip to the end and leave a response. Pinging is currently not allowed.
